Marathon wants fight over higher flood premiums (KeysNews.com)

Marathon City Councilman Dick Ramsay doesn't want the city to waste time fighting astronomical National Flood Insurance Program rate increases that took effect Tuesday.

Ramsay has placed an item on Tuesday's City Council meeting agenda to discuss the premium increases that many feel could cripple a slowly recovering Keys real estate market.

"What I'm going to ask the council to do is send a letter to [Gov. Rick Scott and the Federal Emergency Management Agency] outlining the impact it'll have on the Florida Keys and do anything possible to look at the issue and see if we can get some relief," he said.
